Newsletter #12 - The Marcin, Julien Herremans photography and more to come

We dreamt of floating on a lake while being ignored by the birds. Sliding on the stream with a camera in front, taking pictures without being noticed. So we worked on a new floating platform for more than a year. Very happy to announce it will be available for all of you in September!
In early summer, Julien Herremans sent us some stunning images, taken from one of our hides during a workshop in France. So we asked him to share some of his finest floating hide pictures and the stories behind them. Sit back and enjoy!
Introducing: Marcins Floating Platform
The Marcin floating system allows you to move freely in the water and be creative.  While lying on a platform, you hold the camera in front and follow the stream. You can fix your camera on a gimbal head and a pod or lay it on a bean bag. It’s perfect for use in shallow water, swamp terrain and rivers, both for photography and as a raft. Also tested and approved in difficult winter conditions!

The concept evolved out of an accessory we made for the inflatable floating hide. After it didn’t work out as an enhancement for the hide, we thought of a better purpose for the prototype. So we took it on a trip to the lake and figured out how we could improve it as a separate and stable platform for you and your camera.

The Marcin is very easy to pack and travel with. Inflated, it’s a safe and stable low-level platform for waterbird photography and surprisingly well suited for swimming with a pair of flippers, while supporting your upper body. It comes with a Ponting bag, easy to carry on your back.
Interested? Be sure to preorder, deliveries start in September! Discover the Marcin.
Nature at water level - Julien Herremans
We received some stunning images of dragonflies from photographer Julien Herremans, taken from one of our hides during a floating hide workshop in Les Dombes, France. He was looking for waterfowl, but with few birds around, the dragonflies caught his attention. “I always scout the area with my binoculars before I start – some preliminary observation helps a lot. There weren’t many birds, but then I saw the dragonflies. So, I changed my plans and mounted my 500mm PF 5.6 lens.”
This wasn’t the first floating hide photography trip for Julien. He’s been an enthusiast ever since he discovered this technique during a trip with Yves Adams in 2015. We asked him to share some of his finest floating hide images and the stories behind them. Have a look and enjoy!
Coming soon: more components to enhance your gear
Because we are a manufacturing company of outdoor gear and not just creative designers, we have a lot of materials at hand to prototype our ideas. Clips, poles, fabric, velcro, foam, webbing - you name it, we’ve got it.
These products come in handy for the photography community, as many photographers enhance their own equipment to make it suit them better. So we will offer these products in small amounts and at friendly prices on our webshop soon. To be continued!
That’s it for now. We’re having a great summer and hope you are spending it outdoors! Keep us posted and inspired about your work! You can follow us on Facebook or Instagram and, of course, via this monthly newsletter.
All the best to you and yours!
